College of
Medicine Scholarships
College of Medicine Scholarships A large number of scholarships in various amounts designated for students in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona are made available through the generosity of outside donors, many of whom have established endowed accounts. They are generally based upon need. In order to be considered for these scholarships, complete your application for need-based financial aid in time to be received by the processor by the March 1, 2009 priority date. 1. Free Application For Federal Student Aid. Apply on the internet for 2009-2010 at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Application for
Health Professions Programs Late applicants needing aid should still file the above-listed applications even if the priority date has passed. Scholarship Resume and References
Various donors ask for you to provide a resume or, as part of the application, to describe your personal and professional goals, achievements, honors and extracurricular activities. We suggest letting your personality shine through as you describe how you became interested in medicine and let the reader have a glimpse of what you are like as a person in describing your background and goals. Reference letters may be a deciding factor with some applications.
Using the Internet Scholarship searches were never as easy thanks to the internet. DO NOT PAY for scholarship searches or offers to find aid. If they want money from you, it's probably a scam. DO keep an eye on the Scholarship Information on the UA Office of Student Financial Aid Web Page.
Other Resources You may also want to contact clubs and organizations with which you and your family are affiliated. Social service organizations, veterans associations, churches and corporations are all possible scholarship sponsors. You may find additional information and scholarship opportunities there.
Listed below is an alphabetical list of possible scholarship donors you might want to contact if you meet their criteria. If you have missed the deadline, keep it in mind for next year. The list may also give you ideas for other organizations to contact. If the application is not available on the web, we suggest sending a stamped self-addressed envelope with your request for an application.

PISACANO
LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION
The Pisacano Scholars Leadership Program provides educational programs, leadership training, and funding for outstanding fourth-year medical students for a four-year period. Students must make a commitment to the specialty of family medicine. The funding program is designed to reimburse a portion of medical school debt incurred by the student by the conclusion of the required three-year residency. The Foundation is especially interested in students who exhibit the highest levels of skill, compassion, and leadership. A firm and continuing commitment to the specialty of family medicine is an essential precedent for any applicant to receive a Pisacano Scholarship.
Although the scholarships are intended to reduce the level of medical-school-related debt, financial need is not a consideration. The maximum scholarship award is $28,000.
In the event any recipient of a Pisacano Scholarship voluntarily fails to enter a residency in family medicine upon completion of medical school or, having entered such residency, voluntarily withdraws from it in order to enter the residency of another medical specialty, the Foundation reserves the right to require repayment, in whole or part, of any monies it has paid to such recipient.
All parts of the
application (completed application, topical essay, scores, transcripts,
statements/recommendations) must be RECEIVED in the Pisacano Leadership
Foundation office by MARCH 2, 2009.
